The Pennsylvania Farm Show’s 1,000-pound butter sculpture was dismantled Sunday to be recycled into renewable energy, continuing a tradition of agricultural sustainability.
The sculpture, which depicted Benjamin Franklin and other Founding Fathers toasting the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary, was transported to Reinford Farms in Juniata County. There, the butter will be processed in methane digesters alongside cow manure and retail food waste to generate electricity.
According to dairy farmer Brett Reinford, the facility diverts approximately 60,000 tons of waste from landfills annually, converting the massive artwork into a resource that powers the farm and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
