The capital murder trial of Jeffrey Spence, accused of killing his daughter’s boyfriend, Kirby Carpenter, in 2022, has ended in a mistrial after jurors deadlocked 6-6.
Prosecutors allege Spence robbed and shot Carpenter, while the defense argued there was no forensic evidence linking him to the crime. Spence’s wife, Karen, and daughter, Caitlin, previously pleaded guilty to related charges and testified against him.
A new trial is expected in 2026.
