Bob Veale, a towering 6-foot-6 pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, known for his blazing fastball and intimidating presence passed away at age 89, leaving a legacy as one of baseball’s most dominant left-handed pitchers.
Veale led the National League in strikeouts in 1964 and set a Pirates record with 276 strikeouts in 1965. Over his 13-year career, mostly with the Pirates, he compiled a 120-95 record, 3.07 ERA, and 1,703 strikeouts. Later in his career, he transitioned to a bullpen role before retiring in 1974.
