Severe storms that swept across western and central Pennsylvania left thousands without power over the weekend, with utility crews continuing restoration efforts Sunday.
According to ExploreJeffersonPa.com, more than 47,000 outages were reported across FirstEnergy’s service area, including over 1,100 in Jefferson County and more than 850 in Clearfield County, while Central Electric Cooperative said nearly 900 of its members remained without electricity.
Officials urged residents to stay away from downed power lines.
According to today’s Punxsutawney spirit, Jefferson County Emergency Management Director Tracy Zents said crews responded to more than 100 calls for downed trees, damaged festival equipment, flooded roads and basements, and a reported building collapse in Timblin Borough.
No serious injuries were reported.
