A more than 1,000-acre property near Brookville in Jefferson County is under contract after being marketed as a potential hyperscale data center site with access to up to 390 megawatts of power.
According to reports from WTAJ News, while no development plans have been announced, local officials and residents have raised concerns about potential impacts on water resources, wildlife and nearby communities. State Sen. Cris Dush said more information is needed to understand how large data centers could affect rural areas, particularly because the site lies between two townships with limited zoning oversight.
The buyer has not been identified.
