Two former Pennsylvania residents are jailed in northern Indiana after authorities said they discovered three children and dozens of animals living in unsanitary and dangerous conditions inside a home.
According to ExploreClarion.Com, Laura Duncan, 44, and Thomas Duncan, 39, formerly of Oil City, each face multiple felony counts, including neglect of a dependent and animal cruelty, according to reports. Police said a welfare check requested by a delivery driver led to a search warrant, after which officers found the residence filled with feces, flies and a strong odor. Investigators removed 23 dogs and two cats from the home, with one dog found dead, and said the animals were in poor condition. The three children, ages 12 to 16, showed signs of poor hygiene and possible illness and were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The couple is being held at the Elkhart County Jail pending an initial court appearance.
