A Falls Creek woman was defrauded of $13,000 in an online scam in which the suspect posed as a U.S. soldier stationed in Syria, state police said.
The 40-year-old victim reported that the man contacted her over the internet and claimed he needed money to ship gold bars to the United States. Authorities said the victim sent funds via Zelle in multiple transactions between February and April.
The investigation remains ongoing.
