A jury in Calhoun County has convicted a former Jefferson County business owner who was involved in a high-profile deer theft case of first-degree murder in the 2022 killing of Kirby Carpenter.
ExploreJeffersonPa.Com is reporting 67-year-old Jeffrey Spence, was sentenced to life in prison following a retrial. Prosecutors said Spence fatally shot Carpenter, his daughter’s boyfriend, in a case driven by financial motives, while the defense argued there was no direct forensic evidence linking him to the crime.
The verdict comes after a previous trial ended with a deadlocked jury.
