A giant black top hat installed in Barclay Square debuted over Groundhog Day weekend as a new attraction and photo opportunity in downtown Punxsutawney.
In today’s Punxsutawney Spirit, Borough officials said the display was created to honor the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club for its longtime efforts promoting the community and its famed groundhog, Phil.
The project was a collaborative effort involving the borough, the Punxsutawney Revitalization Group, the Tourist Bureau and the Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce, and was inspired by popular photo installations in larger cities designed to draw visitors and boost tourism.
