An early-morning attic fire caused significant damage to a two-story home on Myrtle Avenue in Punxsutawney, authorities said.
According to the Punxsutawney Spirit, The fire was reported at about 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, prompting a response from all three Punxsutawney fire companies — Central, Elk Run and Lindsey — with Big Run and McCalmont providing mutual aid. Fire Chief Chris Smith said heavy smoke was visible on arrival, and crews later encountered additional flames and smoke coming from the eaves.
Punxsutawney Borough Public Works assisted with salting nearby streets as water runoff created icy conditions amid temperatures around 5 degrees.
