A Rockton man is being held without bail after state police say a drug investigation in DuBois led to the discovery of a homemade explosive inside an apartment.
WJAC News reports, 30-year-old Derek McCracken was arrested early Wednesday during a narcotics search on South Highland Street, where investigators found a CO₂ canister modified into an improvised explosive device containing about 2½ pounds of gunpowder, along with a loaded sawed-off shotgun. The State Police Hazardous Device and Explosives Unit rendered the device safe, and McCracken later admitted building it, authorities said.
Court records show he faces multiple felony charges, including risking catastrophe and possession of explosive material.
